Hotel Pigalle Gothenburg is a sensually decorated hotel near the railway station. ***
Location
Surrounded by canals and the old town with its cobblestone streets, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, Hotel Pigalle is situated in the heart of Gothenburg. Nearby, you’ll also find a selection of museums, a charming market hall, cinemas, and the Trädgårdsföreningen park with its palm house. The railway station is just a three-minute walk away.
The hotel itself is located in a building dating back to the 18th century but decorated in the 1920s style.
Style
Hotel Pigalle is dominated by a dark and sensual style with leather sofas, elaborate lampshades, and thick curtains. Visiting here feels like stepping into a luxurious inn from the late 1800s. Playful photographs decorate the hallways and amusing dog statues add a touch of lightness to the whole.
The reception is right by the front door, and next to it, there is a delightful bar. Here, plush armchairs and sparkling light fixtures create a cozy atmosphere, while heavy velvet curtains keep the humdrum of the modern world outside.
On the top floor, you’ll find the hotel’s restaurant, Atelier, where breakfast is also served. Pigalle’s style continues here, with the addition of a large fireplace and decorative arrangements of bottles and books along the walls. The decor sets the mood for both a splendid dinner and a decadent breakfast moment.
My Visit to Hotel Pigalle Gothenburg
I spent a night at Pigalle during my train journey from Stockholm to Oslo via Gothenburg. The hotel’s location, just a few minutes walk from the railway station, was ideal – as was the staff’s welcoming attitude toward Fred, the puppy traveling with me.
I spent the day exploring the charming neighbourhoods of my former hometown, both in the old district and the wooden house area of Haga. I had booked a dinner at Pigalle for 5:30 pm, wondering if there would be others so early. My worry was unfounded, as, by six o’clock, Atelier was, in my view, full. The food was extremely delicious – I had the best scallops of my life here – and Pigalle’s restaurant and bar are popular among both hotel guests and locals.
I enjoyed the evening in my hotel room’s plush bed, reading late into the night. Fred had his own bed, a fabulous velvety one I’d like to get for my dog, too.
Breakfast was as delicious as dinner, with pancakes, cold cuts, bread, fruits, and healthy drinks, along with warm breakfast options. Despite the room quickly filling up again, the atmosphere remained peacefully intimate.
Highlight
The interior of Pigalle. While living in Gothenburg, I dreamed of visiting the hotel – however, the pandemic prevented me from doing this. Now, I fully enjoyed my visit: the hotel turned out to be even more and charming than I had dared to dream while passing by Pigalle. Perfect!
