Grand Hotel Kempinski, Riga – A luxury stay in the Latvian capital

hotel kempinski riga

Grand Hotel Kempinski, Riga, is located in the heart of the Old Town, offering a luxurious base to explore Latvia’s capital city. After the day’s sightseeing, the best thing is to relax in the hotel’s spa and saunas.***

Location

Riga’s 5-star Grand Hotel Kempinski is located right by the beautiful Bastejkalna Park in the Old Town. Next door, you can find landmarks such as the National Opera and The Freedom Monument, while many of Riga’s main sights, such as the House of The Black Heads and the UNESCO World Heritage Site -listed Central Market, are within a 10-minute walking distance away. Riga’s Central Railway Station is 800 metres away whereas the bus station is 600 metres away from Kempinski.

Style

Hotel Kempinski is self-assuredly stylish with a soft brown and beige colour palette. Marble has been generously used in the ground floor’s furnishing. Here, comfortable seating areas with sofas offer a cosy ambience for enjoying coffee or drinks. The hotel’s 141 rooms are from 35 to 44 square metres, allowing ample space for hanging your clothes, bathrooms, and living areas. The top floor hosts a fabulous Stage22 Bar & Restaurant with a terrace giving right to the opposing National Opera. The spa is located underground, and apart from the pool and massaging water fountains it hosts a selection of saunas and a cold plunge pool.

My visit to Hotel Kempinski Riga

I stayed in Kempinski’s Opera Deluxe Room for two nights. The room was very spacious with a seating area, desk, cabinet where tea, coffee and other drinks were found and a good-sized bathroom with a bathtub and a separate space for shower. The view gave towards the Bastejkalna Park and the Opera House. The sight from the window was super pretty with Christmas lights still twinkling in early January. On my first night, I spent a good amount of time enjoying the spa: this was one of the highlights of my whole trip around the Baltic States by train. The weather was Arctic and it was so relaxing to stay in the warm pool and saunas after sightseeing.

The next day, I started with a healthy porridge and then did some work on my laptop in the lobby, having a second cup of coffee. After sightseeing, I returned to my room early to enjoy the luxurious shower, put on a comfortable bathrobe, sipped a cup of tea, and relaxed in bed with a good book.

Highlight

I highly recommend staying at Kempinski if you want to have a bit of relaxing pampering while in Riga. The spa was calm in the early evening and gave me a good feeling that lasted until the next day.

Reasons to visit

  1. Central location
  2. The spa
  3. Very comfortable rooms and beds
