Jacy’z Gothenburg – A modern stay with a retro twist

Jacy’z Gothenburg is a fabulous foodie and spa stay on the edges of the city’s Old Town.

Location

Located in one of Gothenburg’s newest landmarks, a 100-metre-tall skyscraper, Jacy’z is a must-visit for anyone seeking a modern stay. Surrounded by red-bricked office buildings, the hotel stands just outside Gothenburg’s Old Town and 1,5 kilometres from the train station. Liseberg Amusement Park, the Art Museum and the shopping and restaurant street Avényn are all under 2 kilometres away from the hotel.

Style

In Jacy’z, the style is all about wow. The walls are divided into symmetric windows by iron bars giving the hotel an ultra-modern look. But step inside, and you are welcomed by timeless and inviting lounge and restaurant areas. Here, comfy nooks and sofas await, perfected with a central fireplace. The rooms have a stylish retro vibe, reminiscent of the more subdued side of the 1960s. Think brown colour palette and wicker-doors on cupboards, brightened up with pastel pinks, greens and purples.

Jacy’z is a meeting place for locals, too. This is evident in the restaurant Gogogaga, on the 26th floor. Here, Asian-inspired food is served next to a smaller bar area where cocktails are shaken constantly behind the bar. The view over Gothenburgh’s glittering cityscape is fabulous.

Jacy’z has 233 rooms in total, but if you wish to have a bit more secluded and upscale visit, book a JQ room, walk past the ground-floor front desk and take an elevator up to the 17th floor. Behind impressive brass doors is a speakeasy (photos below) cum reception for JQ’s quests.

My visit to Jacy’z

I spent one night in Jacy’z on my train trip to Oslo. The staff’s helpfulness amazed me even before I got to the hotel as the receptionist organised a taxi from the train station for me – this turned out to be not so easy, as I was travelling with a dog.

In Jacy’z my furry travelling companion was superbly welcomed, and he was happy with his own bed and treats waiting for him. I, too, was very happy: after dining upstairs in Gogogaga skybar and restaurant, I came back to my stylishly retro room, had a fabulous shower and wrapped up in a fluffy robe before tucking into bed.

Needless to say, breakfast was a feast and I especially liked the separate sections and nooks in the dining area, as even on a busy morning the restaurant had a calm feel.

Highlight at Jacy’z Gothenburg

Upon opening, Jacy’z opulent Pachanga Pool Club on the 27th and 28th floors became something of a Gothenburgers’ “thing to do”, as my local friend told me. And no wonder, whether you crave cocktails by the pool or chilling in tranquillity, there will be a perfect area for you. Have a look:

Reasons to visit

  1. Fabulous spa facilities
  2. Stylish and comfy rooms
  3. Walking distance from Gothenburg’s main sights

Double rooms start at 160 euros, and a room on JQ-floor from 185 euros.
